George F. Will in his article, “Sinister figures lurk around our careless president”. Fully explains the news in his perspective about what's going on within the politicians in the White House including Donald Trump and his vice president Mike Pence. The author is able to fully explain his views on the matter by practicing strong uses of diction throughout his article. Words and phrases such as, “Mike Pence eagerly auditioned for the role as Donald Trump’s poodle. Now comfortably leashed”. And, “He did Trump’s adolescent bidding” as well as, “He deserves the degradations that he seems too sycophantic to recognize”. The emotional attachment that the author implies is quite large, in the fact that he is able to easily speak his mind in a very political and opinion based way. The author is able to show much passion in his argument by the amount of news he is able to convey in the passage. The words used and the phrases that he puts down explains his tone as being very critical and contemplative toward the president, and the vice president as well as the other political figures within the White House. Will, is also able to successfully appeal to ethos by establishing credibility within his article such as, “A man who interviewed for the position Pence captured, Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.), is making amends for saying supportive things about Trump. In 2016, for example, he said he was ‘repulsed’ by people trying to transform the Republican National Convention from a merely ratifying body into a deliberative body for the purpose of preventing what has come to pass.” He is able to appeal to ethos by establishing credibility to help his claim, as well as being able to rebuttal some of the views presented in his article. The purpose of the article is to explain the instability that comes from the president and how it may be devastating to the American people, as well as the world with the political issues that come with it as a long term effect. Also, to add his input in the writing to give more than one view to the reader. For example in the article it states, “Until recently, Corker, an admirable man and talented legislator, has been, like many other people, prevented by his normality from fathoming Trump’s abnormality. Now Corker says what could have been said two years ago about Trump’s unfitness”. Which explains directly to the reader on his opinion by helping back it up on how Trump is “unfit” as to be a political leader of the United States of America. George F. Will is able to organize his argument by first explaining the information on the topic, then establishing his views by the diction he conveys, and then finally he is able to appeal to ethos by using credible sources to help back up his information he puts out. The argument he conveys is very consistent throughout the whole piece contributing to the viewpoint on how the politicians in the White House are ill-equipped due to Donald Trump, and his “poodle” Mike Pence. The speaker of this article are the Americans and other citizens viewing the leaders as a unsuitable representation of the executive branch of the United States, regarding the president and the vice president and how inadequate they are to be able to run the nation. The occasion of this article is the controversy that comes from the american people and the centrifugal force regarding the United States and the political disunity that is present. The speaker of this article are the Americans and other citizens viewing the executive branch as being “unfit”. The main subject of the piece is to inform the American people and other citizens that the White House is not able to function properly because of Trump and Pence and how crummy of a job they are doing representing the people of the United States of America.
